Many in body, one in mind: Indian culture

​The way people live, the beliefs they posses, rituals and customs followed by a group of people at a particular area makes the word culture. 

Robert enters a friend’s house with his shoes, Abrahim greets his friends with a tight hug, Rita always folds her hands while passing a gesture of welcome, Suzuki bows his head till he gets same response from his friend. Different culture, different scenario, different ways of living by inhabitants of a particular region. This comprises culture.

Indian culture is one of the oldest civilizations of the whole world dates back to 4,500 years ago. It is one of the most diverse culture which has unity in diversification that is Many in body, One in mind. Indians have different set of rituals, customs, languages, belief systems, cuisine of each and every area but they have one mind and heart that is Hindustani. 29 states and 7 Union territories makes one India. 

Vasudev Kutumbakam is the thought promoted by Indian great philosophers like Swami Vivekananda, Rabindranath Tagore, Mahatma Gandhi and many other great thinkers. Vasudha means earth and Kutumbukam means family, so this word means a wolrd of one family.  Indian culture relates other person’s sufferings and happiness to oneself. It says, if one is happy how can I be happy. 

Twenty two languages written in 13 different scripts and over 720 dialects makes Indian culture unique and diversified. Indian cuisine comprises of different tastes dated back to Mughal empire and Nawabs of Hyderabad. Wazwan –e-kashmiriyat welcomes guests with 36 different food items by a kashmiri host. Padharo hamare desh is a simple smiley gesture weared by a Rajasthani lady while inviting guests at her home. Atihi devo bhavah (Guest  is God) is the landmark of Indain culture which believes in treating everyone as God. Respecting and caring other one as heavenly being. India is a country of religions and philosophy based on humanism. 

Ajanta and Ellora caves of Aurangabad inspires one to look at the different styles of Indian art and culture possessed by people in the ancient times with scientific and biological values of reproduction and mating. Tajmahal is one of the unique heritage of india that displays the foundation of a huge beautiful building on the basis of love and remembrance by a desperate king Shahajahan for his beloved late wife Mumtaaz. The Sun Temple, Konark of Odisha has scientific base of construction that smells the skillful artifacts of kalinga dynasty. India has plenty of different archaeological buildings and sites that makes a place to research and investigate old civilization and culture. 

Different gestures and facial expressions to express one’s grief and emotions manifest in the form of different movements of hands and legs by different poses of dance that varies from kuchipudi dance of Andhra Pradesh to Bhartnatayam dance of Tamil Nadu, Bihu dance of Assam to energetic Giddha and Bhangra dance of Punjab.      

The most distinctive feature of India is its different religions, philosophies and temples.  People across the world visit India to get the peace of mind and ultimate purpose of life; salvation in different temples, mountains, religious and holy places, rivers and caves.
